Glan Camlas Cottage, Brecon

Brecon Beacons. Sleeps up to 2

Set in an absolutely delightful location right on the banks of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal in the centre of The Brecon Beacons National Park - the start for many beautiful walks - for anyone who loves water and boats and easy walking - this is the perfect place to stay. One of the only places where you can walk out of the door straight onto the canal bank. Sit and watch the canal boats cruise gently by.

A traditional canalside cottage, Glan Camlas Cottage originally dates from the 18th century and is situated on the banks of the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal in the village of Talybont, with its excellent Shop, Cafe, Post office and village pubs. There are superb views over the Usk Valley to the Black Mountains from the cottage (it was once an old pub), and is only a couple of minutes walk from the centre of the village. The nearest pubs are The White Hart and The Star both on the banks of the canl, the Travellers Rest now an excellent restaurant only 100 yards away and does excellent food on weekend but you need to book.

The walks from the cottage along the canal either way are delightful, following the canal tow path towards the village, you pass where the disused rail bridge cuts across the road into the village and the aquaduct that carries the canal over the Caerfanell River, a tributary of the Usk was dammed to form the reservoir two miles away. The canal footpath passes The White Hart and Star Inn and reaches the fascinating Bascale Bridge, once an old wooden drawbridge now a more modern swing bridge; this is where traffic gives way to canal craft and visitors stop and watch as the boats navigate through the narrow walls of the canal, near the village Shop, Cafe and Post Office. Walking in the other direction you pass The Travellers Rest and are soon passing over Ashford Tunnel where the canal boats pass under a bank and then one reaches the five locks at Llangynidr.
