What a place to wake up - in Sylvie's Shepherds Hut you can walk across the field and up a hill (Rhos Fach) to start the day refreshed and relaxed. Set in the most glorious wild flower meadow with views up to the Black Mountains this is a dream location for anyone interested in the most natural organic undisturbed Welsh countryside. Only a few steps away is an absolutely magical private lake full of brown trout (fishing available by request) and an arboretum of specialist trees and plants (the owner will be happy to describe how he has developed this over the past 50 years) and every hour of the day there is birdsong from all around. Several TV and radio programmes have been made here including one by Iolo Williams from Springwatch featuring the dawn chorus .

The small holding is above the small market town of Talgarth and close to the Rhos Fawr Common with the uninterrupted views straight up to Pen Rhos Dirion. There are wonderful circular walks up over Mynydd Du Forest over to the picturesque Grwyne Fawr reservoir - all in The Black Mountains - really the lesser known area of the National Park.

This delightful Shepherds Hut can be used together with Maggies Barn - just a few minutes walk across the meadow and through the gardens.

Up a few steps into the Shepherds Hut - there is a fresh feel about this pretty hut - with a kitchen area with microwave, electric kettle, a wood burning stove and double bed that doubles up as the sofa.

A new shower cubicle, handbasin and a toilet in the shepherds hut.

Outside the hut is a little wooden shed that is used as a drying room and for extra storage.

There is garden furniture and a large gas BBQ perfect to eat outside and enjoy the views and listen to the amazing bird songs that surround this prettily painted shepherds hut.

A peaceful and unique setting
Situated at the foothills of the beautiful Black Mountains and set within a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) on the common above Talgarth; the remote location offers wonderful walking straight from the door. Follow in the footsteps of the workmen of Talgarth who, a century ago, carved a footpath in the Black Mountains on their daily journeys to hew a new reservoir high in the mountains. A couple of miles across the common, where Red Kite soar above and sheep and wild ponies graze, is the ancient Llanilieu Church (this is a favourite of Prince Charles who visited recently).

On a more practical note, Talgarth has a small supermarket, local chemist and an exceptionally good local butcher, many visitors order meat to take home at the end of their stay. There are also several good pubs and restaurants in the area. The Talgarth Mill Cafe is excellent and visitors can look around this restored of Mill and watch The Miller grinding the corn to make the flour.

Numerous outdoor activities and places to visit
Located just 10 miles from Hay-on-Wye and 12 miles from Crickhowell, Sylvie's Shepherds Hut excellently placed to offer a huge number of outdoor activities all based locally. Walk straight from the house onto the Black Mountains or over toward the Brecon Beacons. There is fantastic canoeing on the River Wye or Usk and hang gliding on nearby Hay Bluff; as well as a superb gliding centre in Talgarth itself. Pony trekking, clay pigeon shooting, fishing and more advanced riding can all be arranged locally.
