Orchard Cottage, Brecon

Brecon Beacons. Sleeps up to 2

Orchard Cottage is a charming, sunny, Gardeners cottage in the grounds of a country house with glorious views across The Usk Valley. This is an idyllic retreat for two - warm and luxurious and with ample space.

When I entered the cottage I took a deep sigh and thought "this is lovely" - immediately warm and welcoming with a bottle of wine and welsh cheeses on the table.

Accommodation

Sleeps 2 - 1 King Size Bed

Newly equipped, the kitchen has an electric cooker and hob, a microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and a circular table - the owner is very fond of "Emma Bridgewater" china and this gives the whole cottage a real "country" feel.

Up a couple of steps to the beautifully furnished, attractive and very sun filled sitting room, with a modern and efficient wood burning stove in the corner, leather sofa and chairs and a TV with Freeview.

Upstairs to the bedroom

The first impression again is of space - with a fine King sized bed with a handmade patchwork quilt - views across the Usk Valley to the Talybont Valley. A granary door leads down to the little terrace and garden.

The en-suite bathroom has plenty of space with a bath with a shower over, hand basin, toilet & a big heated towel rail.

There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer in a separate laundry room.

The Orchard Cottage sits behind the fabulous old Talybryn House and barns -now with fresh life breathed into it - so is not completely secluded but certainly with nothing to disturb visitors.

The owners are passionate about conservation and have planted two separate orchards with various fruit trees, cherries, plums apples and pears - when we visited they were picking apples to go for pressing to make their own apple juice.

Visitors are welcome to walk around the grounds - through a meadow with chickens, and a natural pond with ducks. A foot path leads up through the fields to Allt yr Esgair and even across to the Farm Shop at the Welsh Venison Centre, where you can buy fresh produce and enjoy a cup of coffee. On a quiet evening visitors might hear the calling of the stags.

The cottage is at the top of a long drive between Talybont on Usk and Bwlch so within easy reach of two local shops and several village pubs. Highly recommended is The New Inn in Bwlch, a very family friendly pub - but you need to book - or there are three local pubs in Talybont on Usk. In Bwlch there is also The Little Diner - American style and a warm welcome is always offered.

A very convenient place to stay if attending any events at either Buckland Hall or Peterstone Court.

Brecon 8 miles, Bwlch less than a mile, Talybont on Usk 2 miles, Llangynidr 2 1/2 miles, Crickhowell 7 miles, Abergavenny 13 miles, The closest railway station is Abergavenny.
