Rose Lodge is a bespoke built lodge conveniently close to York and The North York Moors. In 1140, during the reign of King Stephen, a motte-and-bailey castle was built, the remains of which can be seen from Rose Lodge. The Castle has been designated Ancient Monument status. Today it is popular with walkers and cyclists who come to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside. Sheriff Hutton benefits from a village post office and general store, artisan wine shop, Quarmbys delicatessen and coffee shop, two pubs, pizza take-away, butcher and sandwich shop.
