Ocean View Cottage is a spacious, bright and comfortable detached holiday home, located close to the owners’ home, in the crofting community of Smerclate on the island of South Uist. With panoramic views over the Sound of Barra, this peaceful and tranquil location offers a real ’get away from it all’ experience, whether you go out exploring or just enjoy the comforts that Ocean View Cottage offers. The birdlife and wildlife are wonderful, with eagles, corncrakes, whales and basking sharks, which all visit in the summer. The machair is a mass of colour with all the different wild flowers, flora and fauna, and there is brilliant walking on the white sandy beaches. This is an ideal base for exploring the islands. Eriskay is a short drive away, where you will be amazed at the turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and where the Eriskay ponies wander freely. Here you will also find the famous Politician Inn. The cargo ship, SS Politician, sank in February 1941 in the waters between Eriskay and South Uist, and this shipwreck was the basis for the classic film ‘Whisky Galore’. Guests can take a day trip from Eriskay to Barra, and other boat trips run from Lochboisdale out to Mingualay, Monach Islands and St Kilda. There is so much history steeped in these islands, with Neolithic stone structures, medieval churches and many archaeological sites, and you will find that Gaelic is widely spoken throughout the isles. So do come and enjoy this beautiful location, you will truly be amazed! Beach ¼ mile. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
