If you want to find the perfect hide-away place to stay - it is remote but not isolated and with wonderful panoramic views over the Usk Valley, come to Cuckoo Cottage.

Stroll to the next door pub The Goose and Cuckoo Inn in under a minute or explore the many footpaths and walks directly from the cottage. The cottage has a large garden which is fully secure for dogs with picket fencing and masses of space for children to play safely; there is off-road parking for up to four cars and a secure shed for storing mountain bikes.

Cuckoo cottage is just 6 miles from Abergavenny and only 2.2 miles down the hillside to the main road.

The pub, The Goose and Cuckoo is full of character, steeped in local history and is also dog friendly. It is very popular and during the summer months it sometimes has music nights and real ale weekends. It recently featured in the TV show, Great Canal Journeys with Prunella Scales and Timothy West.

Accomodation:

Sleeps 4 - 2 double rooms

The galley kitchen has an electric cooker, a microwave, a fridge-freezer and has the most glorious views down the valley.

The sitting room/dining room has a dining table and chairs, a pretty Welsh dresser and two sofas. There is a large feature wood burning stove with a good supply of logs.

TV with Freeview and a DVD player.

The bathroom is downstairs - with a bath and a shower over, hand basin and toilet.

Up a flight of wooden stairs to:

Bedroom 1: A bedroom with double bed

Bedroom 2: A bedroom with double bed - or can be two 2'6" single beds

A very useful separate toilet on the landing between the two bedrooms.

Please be aware the neighbours have geese, chickens and a couple of goats.

Cuckoo Cottage is in a great location for exploring the eastern side of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Just down the lane is the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, where at Goytre Wharf visitors can hire a canal boat for the day. There is easy and flat walking along the tow path, where visitors can enjoy the outstanding, elevated views as it contours around the hills, watching the many boats and general life on this historic waterway.

Visit Sugar Loaf Vineyards outside Abergavenny or enjoy watersports on Llandegfedd reservoir. Hire bikes locally or just enjoy the marvellous walking and photographic opportunities in the area.

The Big Pit National Coal Museum is a "must" for visitors of all ages to the area, but especially those with children.

Visit Raglan Castle, another must for those with children to explore; a real castle to encourage their lively imaginations and inspire their interest in medieval history and architecture.

For walkers, there is an 18-mile circular route visiting the castles of Grosmont, Skenfrith and White Castle. Walks up Sugar Loaf, The Skirrid and The Blorenge are all within easy reach. With a small bench at the front door for hauling off muddy footwear, designated indoor boot trays and a small drying room, Cuckoo Cottage is well-prepared for the wet weather walker.

Following a day of exploring, come back to the sanctuary of Cuckoo Cottage or pop next door to enjoy a pint at the welcoming Goose and Cuckoo Inn, where they offer home-cooked, locally sourced food, good beers and a selection of whiskeys. Dogs are welcome here too but please be aware there are pet goats, geese and chickens in the rear garden that are safely fenced off. This quaint old pub dates from the 1760s/1780s and is set on the old drover's track used by workers travelling to and from the lime kilns and charcoal burning sites.
