Skylark Lodge, Abergavenny

Brecon Beacons. Sleeps up to 4

Skylark Lodge

Scandinavian-inspired Skylark Lodge sits amidst beautiful rolling hills and mountains, on the slopes of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. It's ideal for exploring Sugar Loaf Mountain, the Grwyney Valley, the Black Mountains and the market towns of Crickhowell and Abergavenny. The cottage is just few hundred meters from a great pub, The Dragon's Head, in the small village of Llangenny.

Skylark Lodge is perfect for walkers and cyclists. There is secure bike storage and great walking and cycling routes from the door - the owner lives next door and is happy to help with route planning if she's around. Take a stroll to the local pub, or a hike up the Sugar Loaf (there's a path right from the sun terrace), and then return to the cosy lodge. It's also great for birdwatching with pheasants roaming across the garden, lovely views over the Usk valley and a small wood behind.

Flexible accommodation for up to 8 people
Skylark Lodge, together with its neighbour, Pheasant Lodge , offers the ideal solution for groups of friends or family looking to enjoy the walking, cycling, food or events for which this area is known. Pheasant Lodge and Skylark Lodge can accommodate 4 each in lodge. The property is well placed to provide accommodation for a number of local events such as the Abergavenny Food Festival, The Green Man Festival, The Polo and Horse Trials at the Glanusk Estate and the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells.

A quintessential village pub serving fantastic food
The Dragons Head pub in Llangenny is just a 400 meter walk away and is a great example of a small village pub, loved by its locals. George and Karen serve wonderful, home-cooked meals and local ales. The cosy, low-ceilinged interior is typical of pubs in the area with horse brasses on the walls and comfy seating around a huge wood-burning stove - an ideal resting point after a long walk. In the summer the enclosed garden and terrace area is lovely.

Foodies will appreciate the selection of other superb eateries within around 20 miles of Skylark Lodge. These include two Michelin starred restaurants, The Walnut Tree just over 9 miles away and The Crown at Whitebrook. The lodges are also within easy reach of the celebrated Bell at Skenfrith, Michelin pub of the year in 2007 and recipient of 2 AA rosettes. Finally, The Hardwick is just under 7 miles away and is another multi-award winning gastropub.

Time your visit towards the end of September and take in the Abergavenny Food Festival and enjoy the Welsh hospitality and sample some amazing local produce.
