Alfreds Bull Pen, Abergavenny

Alfred's Bull Pen is on a quiet farm with a few sheep, some pretty calves in the flower filled meadows and some ponies peacefully grazing in fields beside the drive down to the farm, all within very easy reach of The Black Mountains and Llantony Valley, Offa's Dyke and Brecon Beacons. Converted from the old bull pen, the architect has cleverly made full use of the original structure of the building, with large windows allowing plenty of light to fill this lovely space. For visitors keen on sustainability there is geothermal underfloor heating which gives a wonderful radiant heat. For visitors interested in good food this cottage is only a few minutes walk from The Hardwick run by Stephen Terry, the well known chef , but remember to book well ahead! For everyday dining you will be spoilt for choice with the many other good gastro-pubs in the area.

Sleeps 4/5 - 1 king-size, 1 twin & sofa bed available.

Alfred's Barn has a very spacious and well designed light kitchen with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, large fridge and a freezer, dishwasher etc. Ample storage space and a large central dining table and chairs with windows all around to be able to enjoy the ever-changing scenery.

The utility room houses the washer/dryer.

The warm and comfortable sitting room has sofas and chairs set around a wood burning stove adding to the atmosphere of the barn, first basket of wood supplied, there is a flat screen TV with DVD and i-pod docking system, a music system with radio and a good supply of games and books in the dresser drawer.

French doors lead out to the stone terrace with garden furniture, BBQ and a lawn with an old oak tree.

There is a further room down a couple of steps that has the snooker table, this room has double doors and a sofa bed so if there are five visitors in the party it can be a third bedroom.

Bedroom 2: Has twin beds

The Bathroom: Has a shower over the bath, handbasin and toilet

Beautiful river walks - The beautiful river walks along The Usk Valley River Walk is a few minutes walk away and there is also fishing available on the River Usk - fishing permits and tickets are available from the fishing shop "Sweets" in Usk. Mountain Biking (close to Route 42) and also on the nearby Black Mountains is excellent and of course there are many other sorts of outdoor activities available locally. Raglan Castle is only a short drive away as is The Three Castles Walk, a circular walk around Skenfrith, Grosmont and White Castle. The World Heritage Site with Big Pit and Blaenavon Iron Works is a short drive and offers a lovely day visit for children and adults alike.

Great location - This is a great location to come with a pet as the owner is very dog friendly and there are wooden or tiled floors throughout making it easy to keep the Barn clean. There is an enclosed garden and wonderful walking for all abilities.

For Food Enthusiasts the Abergavenny Food Festival is held in September - book early - as we are spoilt for excellent award winning restaurants with The Hardwick only a couple of minutes away, The Foxhunter, a 5 minute drive, The Walnut Tree, or The Bell at Skenfrith all within 10 minutes. Being so close to the Severn Bridge approximately 25 minutes this is a perfect location to bring a few close friends or family for a Special Occasion with Bryn Cain Coach House nearby which could be booked together with Alfred's Bull Pen thus sleeping 9 people. For eating out in a very local family friendly, with family friendly prices try The King of Prussia 100 yards up the road.

Abergavenny 3 miles, Brecon 25 miles, Monmouth 12 miles, Cardiff 45 minutes, The Severn Bridge is less than 25 minutes drive.
