Take the short stroll along the banks of the River Esk to Ruswarp Pleasure Boats, where you can hire a rowing boat and enjoy a leisurely float along the river, or thrill-seekers can tackle the waters in a kayak. Jump in the car and head to the seaside town of Whitby, the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Gothic-novel, Dracula and climb the 199 stone steps to reach the ruins of the 13th century Whitby Abbey, offering panoramic views of the harbour and across the rooftops of the town. History buffs will be delighted with the abundance of heritage to discover in the ancient town, from the displays that can be seen at RNLI Whitby Museum to Whitby Lighthouse.
