Dabbling Ducks, Ruswarp

North York Moors. Sleeps up to 5

Nestled in the small village of Ruswarp, a stone's throw away from the seaside resort of Whitby, rests this homely brick-built cottage, Dabbling Ducks. Perfectly positioned within a quiet cul-de-sac within walking distance to the River Esk, Dabbling Ducks offers a welcoming setting for your next visit to North Yorkshire. A handy driveway greets you upon arrival at the property, leading you up a set of stone steps and over the threshold into a cosy hallway, aptly featuring colourful artwork of a dabbling duck, where you can kick off your boots before continuing through to the contemporary open-plan living and dining area. The sociable space is thoughtfully laid out with a grey interior and boasts a wooden dining table with seating for all six guests as well as a plush armchair and a number of sofas gathered around the coffee table, inviting you to put your feet up and enjoy a spot of television. Follow the room through to the amply-equipped kitchen, where the modern grey colouring continues to decorate the interior, featuring all of the necessities required to prepare your meals, with the added bonus of a handy dishwasher, so there's no arguing over who's doing the dishes afterwards! If you're not ready for the fun to be over, head outside for a seat around the picnic bench and toast your glasses to a fabulous holiday, relishing in the peaceful atmosphere of the quaint village. As the day draws to a close, head upstairs to prepare for bed with a soak in the tub in the newly fitted family bathroom with a shower over, relaxing your muscles amongst the bubbles after a day full of adventure. The first floor boasts three bedrooms, a light and airy single bedroom, decorated with quaint drawings of woodland animals, a sumptuous king-size, and a second sumptuous king-size, fitted with a television, offering an escape from the main area of the house to watch a movie under the covers with your significant other. Put down the oven gloves for the evening and stroll around the corner for a delicious meal at The Bridge Inn, a traditional village pub serving up hearty pub food, or take a visit to Jacksons Butchers to pick up some locally sourced meat or freshly baked goods to enjoy in the comfort of the cottage. Take the short stroll along the banks of the River Esk to Ruswarp Pleasure Boats, where you can hire a rowing boat and enjoy a leisurely float along the river, or thrill-seekers can tackle the waters in a kayak. Jump in the car and head to the seaside town of Whitby, the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Gothic-novel, Dracula and climb the 199 stone steps to reach the ruins of the 13th century Whitby Abbey, offering panoramic views of the harbour and across the rooftops of the town. History buffs will be delighted with the abundance of heritage to discover in the ancient town, from the displays that can be seen at RNLI Whitby Museum to Whitby Lighthouse. Finish the day with a spot of fish and chips from one of the many eateries that line the streets and be sure to grab a stick of rock from Sandgate Sweet Shop in true seaside getaway fashion. Be sure to choose Dabbling Ducks for an unforgettable trip to North Yorkshire.
