Anchorage, Watchet

Somerset. Sleeps up to 5

This Victorian fisherman's cottage is situated beside the beach in the heart of Watchet. With fantastic views over the beach as far as Wales, it is a smart cottage for families or friends. The courtyard has a very special feature: stairs which take you up into the old net drying loft which is now a comfortable look-out with amazing Bristol Channel views and comfy seats for watching TV or playing on the PlayStation 3. From the pavement, you enter the main cottage with its charming sitting room with dining area and well-equipped kitchen. Head up the steep stairs to a double bedroom with big bathroom, and then up more stairs to two charming bedrooms under the eaves. At the back is the courtyard, which was once a hub of Victorian activity, but is now enclosed and partly covered and has a wet room shower and WC. From here you can go through stable doors to a footpath which you share with the neighbour and your own terrace above the beach, a lovely place to sit in the sun and enjoy drinks or meals at the picnic table. The shops, restaurants and pubs of friendly little Watchet are just 100 yards from this cottage, or watch boating life in the harbour marina where Coleridge is said to have met the ancient mariner. You can enjoy fishing trips to catch your supper or take a nostalgic trip on the wonderful steam railway to Minehead. With a little beach here and another sandy beach at Blue Anchor Bay, plus the Quantock Hills nearby, there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Anchorage really is a wonderful base for the best of Somerset's lovely attractions.
