Ty Vern, Brecon

Brecon Beacons. Sleeps up to 6

This light and bright cottage certainly has "the wow factor" when you walk in through the front door; it is a very comfortable south facing cottage with absolutely glorious views - I cannot emphasis this enough. With almost 80 miles of views from The Malvern Hills to The Black Mountains, Hay Bluff, King Hereford's Knob, The Central Brecon Beacons with Pen-y-Fan and on to The Black Mountain and The Carmarthen Fans in the west of the National Park. In the fore ground there are fields with grazing sheep and scattered farmsteads. Quite a sight to behold - especially on a dark night starry night with the vast expanse of dark sky lit up by the moon and stars - perfect for stargazing.

When we were there a slow and quiet Hercules aircraft flew past below our eye level - quite a surprise. Occasionally The Red Arrows fly past on training exercises.

Above the cottage is open common with wild grazing ponies and Brechfa Pool - a nature reserve set at 900 feet above sea level with an abundance of water fowl and rare wet land plants.

The owner of the cottage is a very keen mountain biker and can offer advice on the best local routes and there is excellent professional lock up storage for mountain bikes. This really is a brilliant place to stay whether walking, mountain biking or road cycling. There is also a very good supply of local information. The owner here is happy to offer a "one pot" meal for visitors arriving late after a long drive.
