History lovers can take a short scenic drive south to Dalton Castle, Conishead Priory, and Furness Abbey where the expansive medieval ruins can be explored. The historic, charming market town of Ulverston (birthplace of Stan Laurel) and famous for its landmark monument ‘The Hoad’ is only a few miles away with its abundant cafés, restaurants, many pubs, and arty boutique shops. Also at proximity is the larger town of Barrow-in-Furness with the Dock Museum, the wilderness of Walney Island adjacent the town, and two golf courses where you can test your swing.
