The market town of Kirkby Stephen sits close to Warcop, which boasts picturesque surroundings and is renowned for its excellent walking and cycling routes, with four nature reserves to explore. A walk around the market town will reveal boutique and antique shops, galleries, crafts and plenty of places to pick up a home-made cake. The attractive town of Sedbergh is also within easy reach, here you can visit Farfield Mill to see remarkable, handcrafted art and for more impressive sights head slightly north of Sedbergh to Cautley Spout to view England's highest waterfall, an amazing spot for a picnic. To uncover more of Cumbria's past, visit Penrith to see the magnificent 14th-century Penrith Castle, which rests on a grassy meadow, or travel a few miles South Penrith to Lowther Castle, surrounded by woodland, where an adventure park awaits in the woods; the perfect day out for younger children. Not far away are the picturesque market towns of Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale from where you can explore the beauty of the North Pennines, including the spectacular High and Low Force Waterfalls and Raby Castle. Also easy to reach is the village of Reeth in Upper Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales. Reeth enjoys a magnificent setting on a plateau above the River Swale, surrounded by panoramic views of hills and moorland.
