What to do while you're here:

Peaceful and quiet with superb panoramic views over the well-kept fields, across The Wye Valley with the river glistening in the bottom of the valley and over the Welsh Marches and Herefordshire Border countryside, The Brecon Beacons, Black Mountain and The Malvern Hills.

The Offa's Dyke Path runs just a few hundred meters from the farm and The Begwyns (National Trust land) with miles of uninterrupted walking is close by.

Visitors to the Lodges will be spoilt for choice for places to eat. There are several great pubs such as The Roast Ox in Painscastle or just a couple of miles down the lane The Rhydspence. Both offer great hospitality and food. The closest place for a pint of milk or a newspaper is the local shop and garage in Clyro two miles down the hill.

The market town of Hay-on-Wye is just four miles away. It's famed for The Hay Literary Festival held in May every year and the many second hand and antiquarian book shops and art galleries. The Richard Booth Book Shop is to be recommended with the cinema and cafe. There are lots of interesting pubs and restaurants - one not to be missed is Shepherd's Ice Cream Parlour. Visitors can spend a whole day visiting the little boutique and vintage shops, the two excellent local butchers Gibbons and The Small Farms and the local delicatessen.

There are some excellent places to hire Mountain Bikes - Drover Cycles or if you prefer you can have an accompanied and guided tour - they also have electric bikes. There are a couple of places to hire canoes at - Want to Canoe or Wye Valley Canoes.

Fishing

Jim the owner of the lodges is himself a keen fisherman and is very familiar with fishing on reaches of The Middle Wye for Barble, Trout and Salmon. Permits are available through The Wye and Usk Foundation. Jim is always on hand to have a chat about fishing and they offer secure storage for fishing equipment and a drying area for wet nets and clothing. They also have a bait fridge/freezer. They are also happy to supply an Anglers hearty packed lunch.
