Slieve League (Sliabh Liag), known as ’the highest sea cliffs in Europe’ is at the top of most visitors’ must-see list and is easily accessible from Atlantic View House. Boat trips, fishing trips and sight-seeing excursions can be booked to see the famous sea cliffs and view them from below as they tower 600 metres above. Sometimes visitors are joined by dolphins, whales and seals, basking sharks have also been spotted as they feed on plankton.

Just a few miles from Killybegs lies Fintra beach, which offers stunning views of Donegal Bay and Benbulben Mountain in Co Sligo, through the villages of Kilcar and Carrick perched on the edge of the Slieve League peninsula lies Glencolmcille. A visit to the Folk Village Museum here is a must and the traditional weavers and hand knitting centres for which this area is known. This is Donegal at its wildest, its most untamed. Mountains and sea cliffs fall sharply into the seemingly never-ending Atlantic Ocean. Hardy sheep graze the mountainside, oblivious to the majesty of their surroundings.

Glenveagh National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is on your doorstep as you drive through the famous Barnesmore Gap. Hill walkers will love to climb Errigal mountain, a nice challenging hike with amazing views from the top which make the effort worthwhile. Killybegs is Ireland’s busiest fishing port, and also has the reputation for its abundance of gourmet restaurants both in the town and the locality, many offering fabulous seafood restaurants. For outdoor sports this is an area worth visiting, with sea angling, dive charters, cycling, golf, horse riding, surfing, walking and sightseeing boat trips locally.
