Look out from the four large picture windows in the reception rooms on the first floor, to the comings and goings in the Square below with its Market Cross, wonderful array of individual shops and amazing choice of eating and drinking places. Enjoy a grandstand view of the town’s many events, from festivals to pipe band competitions or simply relax in comfort in the stylish sitting room or in the pretty garden behind the house.
This delightful property with its spacious kitchen/diner, comfortable lounge and 3 double bedrooms provides a wonderfully central position from which to enjoy walking, golfing, fishing, riding, exploring local history or simply watching the world go by in this loveliest of Border towns.
From the top bedroom windows, views of the garden with Nutwood behind , the floodlit abbey and one of the Eildon hills, transport you from the hustle and bustle of life in the Market Square.
The main rooms can be bathed in sun until the end of the day, yet you can wake up in bright, east facing bedrooms where, hopefully, the morning sunshine will be flooding in.
Our favourite morning walk is past the abbey, down to the river Tweed and across the Chain Bridge to Gattonside, returning past the famous Melrose rugby ground where the Eildon hills form a magnificent backcloth. Children will enjoy a stop in the Gibson park to play on the swings etc. before making your way back up the Main Street to the front door.
Different paths lead to the foot of the Eildons and the view of the Border countryside from the top is well worth the climb.
You are only a minute away from a wealth of restaurants or bar food so no driving home will be necessary.
An hour’s journey by train from Tweedbank will take you to the heart of Edinburgh where you are able to spend a full day visiting the sights without the hassle of car parking in the city.
The Great Scottish Tapestry now has its permanent home in Galashiels and is well worth a visit.
Located in Melrose, this vacation home is in a rural area and on a river. Saint Cuthbert's Way and Southern Upland Way - Section A Trailhead are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore St Abbs & Eyemouth Voluntary Marine Reserve and Bank Street Gardens. Traveling with kids? Consider Waverley Line, or check out an event or a game at Kelso Racecourse. Fishing and swimming offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with cycling and hiking nearby.
