Inside, the sense of quality is enhanced by stylish bedrooms and a spacious living/dining room featuring high ceilings and a large double sided wood burner, perfect for those chillier days.

The house and surrounding area are steeped in World War I history, as it was once a World War I military hospital for soldiers, and Montreathmont Forest was the location of the Montreathmont Camp Radio Station in World War II and as Airship Station in WWI. The listening radio station began as a secret listening post and codebreaking centre, which operated as an outstation of Bletchley Park during World War II and continued to monitor communications during the Cold War. Remains of the site can still be seen today.

The forest is also home to a host of wildlife, including the elusive capercaillie, as is nearby Balgavies Loch which is a birdwatcher’s paradise, where waders, ducks, geese and osprey are often sighted. This part of the world is a hidden gem, as there is the wonderful scenery of the Angus Glens, as well as sandy beaches at Montrose, Lunan and St Cyrus, and all within very easy reach. There are excellent travel links to all the main cities, Dundee, Perth, and Aberdeen are all within an hour’s drive, while the local towns of Forfar, Kirriemuir, Montrose and Carnoustie have lots of local attractions and leisure activities, including excellent golf, tennis and cycling. Beach 12 miles.
