The Neighborhood:
Lancaster's history can be traced back several thousand years. The small city has a cathedral and a medieval castle where the witches of Pendle were imprisoned, and has as its backcloth the beautiful countryside of the Lake District, the Forest of Bowland and the Lune Valley. It is a friendly city packed with pubs, clubs, shops, markets and theatres.

Lancaster Castle, the Cathedral, the Ruskin Library, Williamson Park and St George's Quay with its award-winning Maritime Museum, are noteworthy visitor attractions. Since the prison wing closed in 2011, Lancaster Castle now offers extended tours of the building and courtyard, and runs themed events throughout the year.

There is a good selection of independent cafes and restaurants in the city centre.

Dukes Theatre and the Grand Theatre are in Lancaster, the Platform is in Morecambe. Modern multi-screen cinema complexes are in Lancaster and Morecambe and the Dukes Cinema offers the independents.

Williamson Park, with its refurbished café and acres of beautiful parkland, and Happy Mount Park with traditional landscaping and summer attractions are both popular places to visit.

Two shopping centres with the usual high street names are complemented by the many individual retailers located in the pedestrianised city centre.
There is a popular indoor market, and monthly farmers' markets. Lancaster's outdoor Charter market offers a range of food, gift, book and craft stalls.

Getting Around:
The apartment is located in the north of the city centre. It's a short drive to anywhere, but walking, it's about 10 minute walk to/from the city centre shopping area and about 15 -20 mins walk to/from Lancaster train station (0.7 miles). Aldi Supermarket is next door to the building and a large Sainsbury's Supermarket is 5 minutes walk. Lancaster University is located south of the city and can be reached by car in approximately 20 minutes.

Lancaster prides itself on its excellent network of cycle tracks. Most of the city centre is pedestrianised and walking and cycling are strongly encouraged. Local bus services are efficient. Road and rail links are good. The West Coast Main Line service operating between London and Glasgow stops in Lancaster. The M6 is the north–south motorway. Coach services are good and ferry services operate from the Isle of Man to Heysham harbour. The region's main airport is Manchester and there are smaller airports at Blackpool and Liverpool
