First built in 1813, a former toll-house, this unique 3 bedroom cottage with many of its original features is set by the road in the heart of West Sussex on the South Downs Way. Sleeps five with ease (1 double, 2 bunk beds (small single) and 1 single, the cottage is full of character, all rooms are connected in a circle around the central chimney, so you can walk all the way around. A nice lounge area and fully equipped kitchen for cooking and a bathroom/WC.

There’s loads to do in the area: fantastic long and short walks, with pubs, little churches and inquisitive chickens on route if desired; Amberley industrial heritage museum next to the station and Roman mosaics a few miles away; the castle, cathedral, delis and antiques of Arundel; the sea at Littlehampton. You can eat at the café or pub either side of Turnpike, take cake at the tea rooms or use the fantastic village shop to stock up. Chichester and Brighton are reachable by train or car.

Amberley train station, with direct trains from London Victoria and London Bridge, is two minutes’ walk away.
