The pretty village of Bwlch-y-Cibau is an easy 1 mile walk with a lovely country pub offering bar and restaurant meals. Similarly, the pub in Llanfechain, just 3 miles away, offers fine ales and country dining. The market town of Llanfyllin, 4 miles away, is the nearest place for groceries, a pharmacy and takeaways, including a chippy and pizzeria.
Driving northwards towards stunning Lake Vyrnwy, a window seat in the local hotel is not to be missed; and from the sleepy village of Llangynog at the foot of the Berwyn’s, you will find the beautiful St Melangell’s Church, with reputedly the oldest Romenesque shrine in Great Britain. Welshpool is 10 miles south, home to the National Trust’s medieval Powis Castle and Gardens. There is an original steam railway from Welshpool to Llanfair, and at the Old Railway Station you can shop on the original platform. Pony trekking, golf and fishing are all available nearby, and the stunning Ceredigion beaches are an easy day trip through charming villages, dramatic mountains and glorious Welsh countryside.
