If you’re looking for a quiet country retreat, look no further than this cosy cottage in the village of Bigrigg, just a short drive from Cumbria’s western coast. This lovely, end-terrace, within a handful of traditional quarryman’s cottages, offers a great escape to the countryside. From the living area and bedroom windows you can enjoy uninterrupted, open views across to the peaks of some of the most famous Lake District fells. It certainly gives you a fantastic start to your day when you wake up and look across the Lake District National Park and see the iconic peak of Scafell Pike in the distance, and the outlying fells of Ennerdale, Loweswater and Wasdale including Dent Fell. The amazing changing colours of the landscape through the season’s means you’ll never get bored of the great views from this rural retreat.
The cottage is furnished to a good standard and features an open plan living space on the ground floor, as well as a bathroom with a large shower cubicle and utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. The open plan design of the ground floor makes it a great social space and includes a Nespresso coffee machine to warm you up after a busy day of exploring. Upstairs you will find a comfortable kingsize bedroom with open views, and a snug. This is a great place to relax after a long day in the fresh air and is equipped with a traditional Sony record player. The owner’s have provided a great collection of vinyl records for you to enjoy during your stay. The rear garden and patio offers a lovely outdoor space for soaking up the afternoon sun.
The village of Bigrigg offers a shop and pub under a mile away, and you are also just 2½ miles from the popular towns of St Bees and Egremont. St Bees is a coastal Cumbrian town with a long stretch of sandy beach, great for exercising your four-legged friends. It is also the most westerly part of Cumbria and is the starting point for the famous Alfred Wainwright Coast to Coast walk. Egremont on the other hand is a small market town offering a great selection of local shopping and dining experiences overlooked by the remains of a Norman castle dating back to the 1100’s. Beach 2¼ miles. Shop and pub ¾miles and restaurant 2¼ miles.
