Duck Down Cottage provides a high standard of accommodation, just 1½ miles from the popular market town of Clitheroe, 3 miles from picturesque Whalley and within walking distance of a pub. This cottage provides the perfect retreat from which to discover all that the Trough of Bowland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Ribble Valley have to offer, including food and various music festivals, antique and literary festivals, and nearby farmers and Christmas markets. The nearby rivers of Ribble and Hodder offer fishing, whilst the popular beauty spot of Edisford Bridge is just ½ mile away.
Lovingly restored by the owners who have created a picture perfect environment from where guests can enjoy discovering the local wildlife. From the living room, you can relax and watch brown hares, deer or cattle grazing nearby. The area has an abundance of different birds, with regular visits from curlews, herons, red kites and sparrow hawks. The resident ducks are highly likely to pay you a visit too!
There are plenty of country and river walks from the doorstep, and Pendle Hill, historically renowned as being the home of the The Lancashire Witches, is just 5 miles away. The area also has an abundance of local eateries to choose from including the many tearooms on offer in the neighbouring villages of Hurst Green and Waddington, as well as award-winning gastro pubs and restaurants, specialising in high quality food, the nearest one being just 2 miles away.
The impressive Stonyhurst College, whose former pupil Arthur Conan Doyle created Sherlock Holmes, and which provided inspiration for the Tolkien novels, holds The Tolkien Trail as well as literary, food and antique festivals throughout the year, and is just 3 miles away. Other places worthy of a visit include Clitheroe, with its Norman castle, Ribchester Roman Museum and Mitton’s medieval church. Guests attending the many neighbouring wedding venues such as Mitton Hall Hotel, The Shireburn Arms Hotel, Eaves Hall and Holmes Mill, will find Duck Down Cottage a welcome retreat.
