The Lodge is perfect for two with a spacious design; the bedroom area is screened off by a curtain from the living room to make it nice and cosy. This detached lodge is situated in the grounds of the colonial style Porth Elenydd, but has its own enclosed courtyard garden, with a luxury, secluded hot tub, with lights, to relax in, in an evening.
The land was originally part of the nearby Hafod Estate, which occupies about 500 acres of the Ystwyth Valley and can be explored on foot. The Forestry Commission now run this estate and there are maps available for the five way-marked walks of varying length and difficulty, where there are streams, waterfalls and rustic bridges to discover. The area provides an excellent base for exploring and taking part in activities such as canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding and walking.
Almost right on your doorstep you have the famous Devil’s Bridge, first built by monks in the 11th century, a walk down to see the plunging waterfalls is a must. There’s a hotel within walking distance where you can get meals or a drink, and a little artisan chocolatier where you can buy the perfect gift to take home. The station for the Vale of Rheidol steam train is also here and the line meanders through the valley to the Victorian seaside town of Aberystwyth. Here you can find lots of shops, cafés and restaurants as well as the pier, and the electric cliff railway to the summit of Constitution Hill where you will have the most magnificent views over Cardigan Bay as you enjoy a coffee and cake. Being a university town there’s a large arts centre and you may catch a show or visit the cinema.
Visit the Silver Mountain Experience, an 18th-century silver-rich lead mine, the Magic of Life Butterfly House, Nant y Arian outdoor leisure area with cafe and red kite feeding station, or take a trip to the old drovers town of Tregaron and stop for a meal at the award winning Talbot Hotel and pub. Porth Elenydd lies on the drovers route where livestock were once driven across the Cambrian Mountains into England to be sold at markets or taken to the ports. You’re just a 20 minute drive from the Ceredigion coast with miles of beaches and coastal pathways so whatever your interest you are sure to enjoy this wonderful area of Wales and Le Petit Maison is the perfect retreat for two. Beach 12 miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
