Priory Cottage, Pembroke

Pembrokeshire Coast. Sleeps up to 2

Medieval Pembroke TownPembroke is a unique medieval walled town and the gateway to Pembrokeshire’s superb south coast. The half mile main street has some beautiful houses as well as pubs, restaurants and individual shops to captivate you. In amenities there are banks, a post office, library with internet access, a supermarket, filling station, chemist, doctor, vet and fortnightly on Saturdays, a Farmers’ Market. Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew CastlesPembroke Castle, just around the corner, was treated to major restoration early in the 20th century and is an imposing structure towering over the river and mill pond. It is awe-inspiring to explore this magnificent building and consider the impact it would have had on the medieval society it was built to subdue. To the south west is Manorbier Castle. Set back on a natural promontory above the beach this building is also a beautifully complete 12th century castle but with a very different atmosphere. Manorbier is only a small village but its splendid castle denotes a former glory. To the east, Carew Castle is much more of a romantic ruin. It is well worth a visit – it offers a rich history and as with both its neighbours, events throughout the year to entertain. South Pembrokeshire beachesThere are superb beaches, hidden coves and small harbours all linked by the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Explore and discover them – large and small and wild and wonderful. Broad Haven South, Barafundle, Freshwater East, Swanlake, Manorbier, Lydstep and Tenby. Priory cottage welcomes your dog. Bosherston Lily PondsThe delightful freshwater ponds are full of lilies in bloom during June. Take your swimming costume on a pleasant walk which skirts the ponds and leads to the magnificent sandy beach of Broad Haven South popular with families and surfers. Pop into the tea room or the local pub in Bosherston village for refreshments on your way home. Narberth Market TownThe little market town of Narberth is a unique commercial community of small, select and unusual shops preserving its old-world charm and setting it apart from the hectic world of supermarkets and out-of-town shopping. Take afternoon tea in the Grove Hotel, visit the Queens Hall for music, performance and exhibitions. This is an interesting and vibrant little town with plenty of lovely things to eat!Explore the Cleddau RiverThis is an intricate waterway which runs from the mouth of the Haven deep into the heart of Pembrokeshire. It is lovely and, in its upper reaches, often a tranquil and very restful place to walk with plenty of romantic spots for a picnic!Visit the award-winning tea rooms at Lawrenny – simple and delicious food and local preserves and cakes all in an idyllic setting. Gardens at Upton castle and Picton CastleThere are lovely gardens to explore, plants to be bought and tea to be drunk in the gardens of Upton and Picton Castles. Pembrokeshire Outdoor ActivitiesLearn to sail or windsurf; hire a bike or go climbing. The sport of Coasteering was named, if not invented, in Pembrokeshire and our coastline is the perfect coasteering venue! Visit West Wales Windsurfing – Dale for tuition in water sports of all sorts. Try windsurfing or dinghy sailing for a new holiday experience or to hone your skills. Pembrokeshire Country ShowsEvery summer throughout the county there are country shows. These are something very different from everyday city life and a real treat - so check in your local Tourist Information Centre for dates and times, pack a picnic and go along – for special holiday memories!Cycle the Brunel TrailTo see the country from a different angle, cross the Cleddau Bridge and head to Neyland to join the Brunel Cycle Trail. This is a peaceful, traffic free, purpose-built track along a disused railway line. It passes through a nature reserve where herons, otters and lots of other wildlife can be seen in the man-made lagoons. Boat TripsBoat trips leave from Milford Haven and from Martins Haven on the Marloes peninsula to visit the internationally important bird island of Skomer. Boat trips also leave from St Justinians near St Davids to visit rugged Ramsey Island. Expect breathtaking coastal scenery, myriad seabirds including comical puffins and hardy little manx shearwaters. Seals and olphins frequent the coastal waters too. Fun ActivitiesClimb the indoor wall at The Hangover in Tenby, enjoy a variety of sports at Heatherton Sports Park, the Blue Lagoon is a fun filled water park, see an array of exotic animals at Folly Farm or Manor Wildlife Park, test your skills at Carew Karting or Ritec Valley Quad Bikes and the young at heart are sure to enjoy Oakwood theme park.
