Apple Bough Cottage, Kinnersley

A very pretty red brick self-catering holiday cottage set on a wonderful and very picturesque farm close to the Wales/Herefordshire Borders and within easy reach of Hay-on-Wye, Hereford and Leominster. A lovely welcome is guaranteed for visitors, the owner was "Best AA Land Lady of the Year" and they pride themselves on having the time for guests and enjoy taking guests for guided tours of the farm. Nearby is The Kinnersley Arms which serves food.

Stabling is available for visitors if they would like to bring a pony. This is a fascinating cottage to stay in with all the items personally chosen, tasteful and useful with many handcrafted by the owner Pearl. From time to time Felting Courses and Gardening Courses are available and in the past courses have been offered on dyeing using eco-dyes from the garden.

Cottage Accommodation

Sleeps 4 - 2 bedrooms

This beautifully designed and artistically decorated holiday cottage has a kitchen with an electric cooker with halogen hob, microwave, a fridge and a freezer, washing machine; the original stabling stall dividers with the cast iron rails and ball tops have been retained adding character to the cottage along with the wood panelling and oak roof trusses.

The sitting room has comfortable sofas and chairs with handmade cushion covers. TV with Freeview and a DVD player. Open plan dining area with dining table and chairs and a very efficient "wood pellet" stove which ensures the cottage is always warm and cosy for guests.

A utility room with an extra sink and good drying space for coats, boots and wellies. A back door leading out to the enclosed "picture book" gardens with garden table and chairs to sit and enjoy this beautiful scene and a children's play area.

A downstairs shower room: With shower, handbasin and toilet.

Bedroom 1:
The master bedroom has a very pretty four poster bed with matching linens and drapes. This room has a hand basin and scenic views over the meadows.

Bedroom 2: Matching twin beds (can be zip-linked to make kingsize on request) with lovely crisp fresh linen and with hand basin in a corner.

Both the bedrooms have a great deal of character with oak beams and pretty windows.

The Bathroom: Has a bath with a shower over, handbasin and toilet.

Beautifully kept gardens

The gardens are very special, a herb garden where visitors can help themselves and a vegetable garden where the owner is happy for visitors to use the produce in season - the one acre gardens are beautifully kept and laid out with a Knot Garden recently designed and planted. The vegetable garden has a range of fruit trees including pear trees, apple trees for eating and cooking, cherry, fig, damson, mulberry and quince all provide beautiful blossom and some are really very well established and productive.

Plenty to see and do

A lovely welcome is guaranteed from the owners Jon and Pearl who pride themselves on having time for guests and delight in taking folk for guided tours of the farm and helping with itineraries of the area to ensure the best tea shops and craft shops, gardens and walks are not missed.

Close by is Kinnersley, with its unique castle, part of The Black and White village driving trail with the many tea shops and galleries. Only 30 minutes from Ludlow with its impressive castle and of course foodie heaven, perfect for a day visit. Five minutes from the Welsh Border and 10 miles to Hay-on-Wye, famous for the Literary Festival, antique shops. Kington, Offa's Dyke Path, The Golden Valley, Ross and Wye and The Wye Valley are all within easy reach making this a great place to stay to enjoy both Wales and England and The Welsh Marches. Hereford with its wonderful Cathedral and Mappa Mundi is only 15 minutes drive. Brecon and The Brecon Beacons National Park along with The Black Mountains are 25 minutes.

Leominster with many antique shops, the Victorian market and more is less than 15 minutes.
