Llansteffan A five-minute amble and you arrive at Llansteffan beach. A wonderful unspoiled sandy shore on the estuary, ideal for sandcastles and birdwatching. Llansteffan is a quiet spot ideal for a relaxing break. The Inn on the Sticks is literally a 2-minute walk away. It is the local gastropub, serving great food. It has a beer garden to enjoy too! Live music on Sunday afternoons - perfect. Across the road is The Old Post Office Village Store and Deli for great coffee and homemade ready meals for you to enjoy. You can order the ingredients for a full Welsh Sunday lunch to cook at home- and they deliver. The deli hosts great themed evenings. Jostle amongst the locals and see if your Welsh comes up to scratch. Llansteffan Castle Just a stroll away the castle cannot fail to impress. It stands on a pretty wooded headland looking out over the Tywi Estuary. Fantastic for bringing history to life for children. The substantial ruins of Llansteffan Castle make a pretty spot for picnics while your little ones lose themselves in play. "Is that a knight I hear approaching?" Scotts Bay Fantastically secluded and yet close by. Walk half a mile south along the coast path from along the sea cliffs. Dogs are welcome, sunbathers too, but take care at low tide. St Anthony's Well Behind the beach at Scotts Bay tucked away behind a door in a small courtyard is St Anthony's Well, a place of pilgrimage for hundreds of years the healing properties of its water are the stuff of legend and worth a visit. Laugharne Drive along the stunning Taf Estuary to Laugharne a large village with a selection of restaurants, several shops, tea-rooms and inns including a village store, a Spar with an ATM, chemist and Post Office combined as well as a bakery (supermarkets and chain stores in Carmarthen) Laugharne plays host to an eclectic mix of eateries, with something for everyone. Browns Hotel was a firm favourite with Dylan Thomas, and he did enjoy a jar or two! This atmospheric venue is open for lunch and dinner. Cors Restaurant set in a romantic 'fairy-tale' garden, serves a contemporary menu as well as take away fish and chips. A must do is 'The Boathouse', the museum dedicated to Dylan Thomas. Stand and take in the atmosphere of "The Heron Priested Shore"Tin Shed Experience, Laugharne An award-winning museum totally focussed on the 1940's and jam-packed with wartime memorabilia, music and so much more. An ever-changing programme of events has something for everyone. The National Botanic Garden of Wales The National Botanic Garden of Wales, set in 568 acres of parkland, is a rival to The Eden Project. Hosting year-round events, an ideal destination whatever the weather. Aberglasney Aberglasney "A Garden Lost in Time" near Llandeilo. This forgotten garden is being brought back to life and preserved for the public by the Aberglasney Restoration Trust and has featured on several television programmes. Tea rooms and a really good Gift Shop. Gardeners can always pick up some bargains here. TenbyBreathtaking beaches, bags of shopping opportunities, bars and cafes galore. Tenby is a great destination for a full day trip. Take the boat to Caldy Island. Go seal spotting or just walk the sands and enjoy the view. Carmarthen County and Market Town Visit the ancient market and county town of Carmarthen, which, with its Roman foundations is said to be the oldest town in Wales. All manner of amenities are based here, only a 15 minute drive away. Close but not too close. The indoor market stocks delicious local produce, second hand books, antiques and crafts by local artisans. Vue Cinema Carmarthen A modern cinema complex, showing a number of films perfect for evenings out or rainy day entertainment. Carmarthen Leisure Centre, Johnstown The 8 lane 25 metre infinity swimming pool is probably one of the best in West Wales. A great day out. Go Wild Adventures, St Clears Try archery, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, horse riding or coasteering, All ages and abilities catered for. Go along with a group of friends or a family and enjoy the adventure. Gwili Railway, Bronwydd Arms Station A nostalgic journey on a steam train is always remembered fondly. With special events such as dining aboard, cream teas and special celebrations for Mother's Day, Father's Day or a unique Sunday lunch you really can immerse yourself in the glory days of steam. Friends and families can luxuriate in this calm Georgian oasis, gazing at idyllic sea views, while the stresses of life flow away like the tide on the beach below. Family and dog friendly house.
