Explore the heritage coastline and the resorts of Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby, birthplace of Captain James Cook. The RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton is well worth a visit, where you could see puffins in their natural habitat. Catch the steam train from Pickering to Whitby stopping at Goathland, home to the ’Heartbeat’ TV programme. York is only a short 27 miles away, enabling you to easily enjoy the history and charm of this amazing city; amongst its many tourist attractions, its majestic minster stands proudly in the centre. Lots of shopping, museums, restaurants and theatres, as well as the excellent open top tourist buses and river boats. The quaint town of Beverley, 13 miles away, boasts a glorious Gothic minster, a lively racecourse and numerous interesting shops, inns and restaurants.
