In 1875 the brewery located to Cockermouth and its real ales are distributed nationally. Do take a guided tour of the brewery when visiting Cockermouth. The Lorton Valley is a beautiful, peaceful corner of the Lake District, much of it accessible by foot and bicycle from the property’s front door. Buttermere, Loweswater and Crummock Water are close by and Haystacks, Alfred Wainwright’s favourite fell, is perhaps the most famous peak in the valley.
It is only 10 minutes walk to the Wheatsheaf, an excellent pub/restaurant and the newly refurbished village shop is two minutes away. In addition to the rear shared patio garden, there is a further pretty community garden a few metres down the lane on the banks of the river Whitbeck.
The bustling market town of Cockermouth is less than a 10 minute drive, with many good pubs, shops and restaurants while Keswick is 15 minutes away over Whinlatter Pass.
