The surrounding area is a walkers paradise, with a network of public footpaths and trails to follow, while the pretty coastal villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay are just a few minutes drive. Why not wander around the quaint narrow streets lined with old cottages tumbling down towards the sea? You will be able to go crabbing in the rock pools, build sandcastles on the beach, or enjoy coffee and cakes in one of the tasty tea rooms. The elegant Victorian spa town of Saltburn is close by, with pretty ornamental gardens, an historic pier and a unique gravity driven cliff lift, which begins at the top promenade and goes down to the beach below. With restaurants, cafes and independent shops, there is plenty to while away a pleasant afternoon. The popular and vibrant resort of Whitby is 14 miles south, and well worth a visit, with its long, sweeping sands, famous Abbey and historic harbour.
