The market town of Halesworth, steeped in the history of brewing, malting and agriculture, is only 6 miles away, and offers a variety of shops and restaurants. ’The Cut’ arts centre features performing arts, films, lectures and more in a converted maltings. The area is renowned for brewing, so why not visit the Valley Farm Vineyards, The Cider Place and St Peters Brewery? Or visit the Oasis Camel Park, the only place in the UK where the whole family can see and touch camels and their animal relations close-up.
Elms Barn is only 10 miles from the beautiful Suffolk coast. The award-winning pier beach at Southwold, famous for its colourful beach huts, lighthouse and Adnams beer, has an array of shops and restaurants, and there is an easy walk over the footbridge to the pretty Walberswick village (a rowing ferry plies back and forth in the summer months). Visit Africa Alive at Kessingland, RSPB Minsmere, Dunwich Heath (National Trust), Dunwich Museum telling the story of the village lost to the sea, or hire a boat for the Southern Broads at the market town of Beccles. Thorpeness, set around the mere, is a delight for children. Take a rowing boat out and visit the islands named after Peter Pan. For a spot of retail therapy then the historic town of Norwich is only 19 miles away with its array of shops and museums. This part of Suffolk is great for walking and cycling, bikes can be hired from a company that delivers and collects.
