There’s so much to discover right from your doorstep, including one of England’s finest medieval castles, Raby Castle, visitors can walk among deer in the vast grounds of the estate which also features a children’s woodland hideaway.

Furthermore you can explore Hamsterly forest on your doorstep, from wildlife watching to stargazing, and adventure play for all the family to exhilarating mountain biking, there is something to keep everyone busy. Travel slightly further afield to Barnard Castle where further attractions are awaiting to be explored, including the Bowes Museum, Egglestone Abbey, High and Low force and the ruins of the medieval castle.

Burnlea Cottage offers a private drive which fits two cars, and a large front garden with stunning views. Inside the property there is a welcoming sitting room with an open-fire and if you can take your eyes off the beautiful views, there is a television to watch your favourite shows.
Moving through there is a kitchen/diner with everything you need for a self-catering stay including a handy dishwasher, and through into the utility there is also a washer/dryer so all guests can keep feeling fresh.
The cottage has three bedrooms; two doubles and a twin, all with built-in wardrobes so guests can unpack any personal belongings, and these rooms are complimented by a contemporary bathroom where guests can soak in a long bath or freshen up with a shower.

The nearby village of Butterknowle has two pubs, whilst a short drive into Cockfield, you will find another pub and a shop for any essentials you may need, as well as a selection of takeaways.


If you time your trip well, you could be lucky enough to see live action at Kynren, featuring fireworks and memorable acts and also on your doorstep is the medieval Raby Castle Park and Gardens for a unique tour with it's new treehouse for children.

The nearby historic market town of Barnard Castle offers a 16th century castle and bridge which makes for a scenic spot, as well as a number of museums and galleries, and the Deepdale Nature Reserve which has the River Tees running through.

This vacation home is located in Bishop Auckland. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Windlestone Hall Country Park and North Pennines, while Bowes Museum and National Railway Museum at Shildon are cultural highlights. Eggleston Hall and Sweet Greetings are also worth visiting.
