Visit historic Holy Island, the epicenter of Christianity in Anglo Saxon times is a short drive north of Alnmouth, which is accessed by a sea causeway.
There are several golf courses in the area and many cycle tracks.
Alnmouth has a railway station with regular trains running south direct to Newcastle or Durham or north to Edinburgh if you desire a day in the city.
