Post Office Cottage is a lovely holiday home situated in attractive countryside only ten minutes from Thurso and near to the coastline as well as sandy beaches. The cottage is set in a large plot with enclosed garden mainly laid to lawn, and there’s a great enclosed decking area. There’s a neighbouring RSPB reserve that welcomes many different species throughout the year. Some birds will visit the Post Office Cottage garden whilst you’re visiting, but the majority deserve a visit from you on the reserve. There are more wildlife spotting sites nearby that should be visited as well. Dunnet Head has puffin, gannet and many other colonies at different times of the year, and from cliff paths near to the cottage, you have an excellent chance of spotting whales and dolphins.

The cottage, as well as being surrounded by a lovely garden and having a nearby RSPB reserve, the countryside in view is the owner’s 600-acre beef and sheep farm. There are few neighbours dotted around, but the sense of seclusion and privacy is palpable.

Entering the cottage at the back door you will find the kitchen/dining room which is a great, large space with everything you’ll want and need on holiday. Through the kitchen/dining room there’s a large Jack and Jill bathroom leading to the hallway. The living room has brilliant views over the countryside and that all important, cosy wood burner.
Post Office Cottage offers lovely, comfortable accommodation that you won’t want to leave during your stay. However, we urge you to do so as there are so many things to do and places to see. Thurso is only ten minutes away by car and a very historic place, having been a Norse settlement. There are layers of history to explore and nowadays it’s a great tourism hub with nice restaurants, bars and cafés. Along with Dunnet Head it also has world-class surfing beaches if you’re so inclined.

Fishing is excellent nearby, the River Forss being only a short walk from the cottage and offering trout and salmon permits in season. The Thurso, Halladale and Helmsdale are also world renown rivers to secure permits for. Reay Golf Club is a short drive away and truly is a hidden gem to try. Green Fees are very reasonable indeed. The NC500 touring route will be a favourite of yours during your stay as it will lead you on adventures that you’ll remember forever. Post Office Cottage is a great base for those wanting to tour the far north of Scotland on day trips using the NC500.

Post Office Cottage can be booked together with Ardbeg (UK5811) to accommodate up to 12 guests.
Free WiFi
