Charming 18C Thatched Cottage Newly Renovated, Cambridge

Cambridgeshire. Sleeps up to 5

A beautifully renovated thatched cottage in the picturesque village of Over.
A piece of tranquility just a short distance away from the city of Cambridge.

The cottage is early 18C and has been newly renovated throughout, with newly treated and stripped beams and modern bathroom and farmhouse style kitchen.

Good transport links to the city, local pubs and beautiful walks all within walking distance.

Please note: The ceilings are low (6ft6) so taller people should be prepared for this.
Also, the staircases to the bedrooms are short but quite steep and without baby gates or handrails and they may not suit elderly persons or anyone who struggles to climb.

The layout is rather quirky as originally the building was two separate cottages. There are two separate staircases which open out onto 2 small bedrooms either side giving 4 bedrooms in total. The maximum number of guests is 5 adults/children or 6 if one guest is a small child.

Each side of the cottage has two small bedrooms. On one side the main bedroom has a king size bed (with storage drawers underneath) and directly opposite this is another room with a single bed and a cot and chest of drawers for clothes. There are no doors on these bedrooms to make it easy for parents (like myself) with a baby and young child.

On the other side the two bedrooms both have doors, there is a double bed in one room with storage drawers underneath it and in the child's bedroom opposite there are bunk beds and a large chest of drawers for storing clothes. Please note that if you want to make use of the bunk beds then you will need to make up the beds yourselves and strip the sheets afterwards as the elderly lady taking care of the linen changing cannot manage this task!

There is one main bathroom downstairs with bath and shower and one separate guest toilet. both of which are newly renovated.

The downstairs living area is open plan with 3 parts to the living room and a breakfast room adjoining the kitchen which looks out onto a good sized private garden with an apple tree.

There is a children's playhouse in the garden with steps and a slide. The playhouse was built for my own children to enjoy summers at the cottage. It is only suitable for 2-3 children at a time from ages 3-10 and children must be supervised at all times. I can take no responsibility for any accidents!

Throughout the property here are no central overhead lights, but rather lots of lamps, many of which we have connected up so that they are controlled by the wall switches.

Please note that mobile reception in Over is very poor. You should find enough reception to send texts.

As I am a mum of two young daughters there are ample toys around for younger guests to play with.

Every part of the property is accessible except the outhouse in the garden, the garage, one small larder in the breakfast room and three inbuilt cupboards in which we keep a few personal belongings for visits home.

Parking space for one car is provided in the driveway to the left of the cottage.
Additional cars if necessary must be parked on the roadside.

There are no overhead lights, just standing lamps in the entrance/lounge areas.

Mobile reception at the property is extremely poor. It is possible to get a signal for sending and receiving texts but you have to be quite persistent, walking around for reception.

There is Wifi reception in most areas of the property but the connection is not good in the garden, kitchen or breakfast room.

Please note: I generally don't accept short stay bookings more than 3-4 months in advance as I like to come back and use the cottage myself and can't plan too far ahead!

This cottage is located in Cambridge. Cambridgeshire Golf Club and Girton Golf Club are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those looking for area attractions can visit Raptor Foundation and Christ's Fellows' Gardens. Scott Polar Research Institute and Whipple Museum of the History of Science are also worth visiting. Spend some time exploring the area's activities, including wildlife walks.
