Wharf Barn, Shrewsbury

Shropshire. Sleeps up to 6

A newly-converted barn on the Attingham Park Estate.

Wharf Barn is one of five newly-converted barns in the quiet northern part of the Attingham Estate. It is surrounded by 4,000 acres of park, farm and woodland. Built in late 1700s or early 1800s as a threshing barn, it is now a light and comfortable space with plenty of character and charm.

On the ground floor, the entrance hall leads up a couple of steps to the family bathroom and a double bedroom. Beyond this, you’ll find the open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room area with a woodburning stove, exposed beams and a double-height window. The barn has a second hallway at the back of the building, and there’s a shower room here. The back stairs, one of two staircases, take you to a double bedroom on the first floor. You reach the first-floor twin bedroom by stairs from the front entrance hall.

The five barns share an enclosed garden, with a lawn, a firepit ready for barbecues and a dining patio. Outside the barns you’ll also find electric car charging points, a bicycle store and a dog shower.

There are a great many walks, cycle routes and waterways on the estate. A canal leads from the bottom of the drive to Berwick Wharf. You’ll have free entry to the Attingham Park’s Regency Mansion, Walled Garden and Field of Play, as well as other National Trust properties in the area during opening hours. There is access to the parkland anytime during your stay.  Attingham’s Carriage House Café, Stables Shop and second-hand bookshop are open every day.
