Dinefwr Deer Lodge, Llandeilo

Carmarthenshire. Sleeps up to 2

A bolt-hole for two, in the heart of estate parkland and a National Nature Reserve.

Dinefwr Deer Lodge is a simple stone building on the Dinefwr Estate with lots of character and comfortable, cosy touches. The rear opens onto a lawn edged by a stream, with a view of the 18th-century deer park.

The front door leads into an open-plan, high-ceilinged room with exposed beams and rough local stonework. There’s a traditional carved oak bed, dining table and chairs, and comfortable places to relax by the wood burner. A door leads to the kitchen and shower-room.

There’s lots to discover on the estate. A path close to the Lodge will lead you to a ruined 12th-century castle perched on a hilltop. You’ll have free entry to Newton House, a grade II-listed manor house and garden, with a café and second-hand book shop. You can follow a walk designed by Capability Brown in 1775, and other paths invite you to explore varied landscapes from flower-rich hay meadows to dense woodlands, bog woods and wet meadows. The estate is protected as a National Nature Reserve and is home to otters, polecats, voles, fallow deer and badgers.

The award-winning market town of Llandeilo is a mile away.
