Melmerby is a small traditional rural village at the foot of Melmerby fell and the road up to Alston, one of the highest villages in England. In the Summer gypsies travelling to the Appleby horse fair camp on the large village greens which are also used for llama trekking.There is a fine dining pub, the Shepherds Inn and the Village Bakery with cafe and shop.
The river Eden is about four miles away at Langwathby which also has a station on the Settle to Carlisle line. Melmerby is a great base for walking and exploring the surrounding countryside and the villages of North East Cumbria with easy access to the Lake District in the West. The market town of Penrith is 9 miles to the West with a range of shops and services and access to the M6.
