Cockermouth 2.7 miles. Situated in a peaceful and picturesque part of the countryside, nestled between the beauty of the Lake District National Park and the glorious Cumbrian coastline, Beck House, a characterful semi-detached cottage in the quiet village of Dovenby. This cosy whitewashed cottage offers a convenient location and an enjoyable self-catering experience for a family, with the lakes and fells of the national park resting just moments away. The house is accessed by the back door, adjacent to the off road parking area; a spacious, comfortable sitting/dining room, with woodburning stove makes an inviting spot for relaxed evenings curling up with a good book or browsing through the channels of the Smart TV on a winter’s evening. The lounge diner has a dining table for 4 plus highchair and there is further outdoor dining furniture and barbeque in the small garden at the rear of the property. A secure garage available for bike storage. The kitchen is well equipped with twin oven cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer in addition to a dishwasher, a washing machine and a tumble dryer to easily deal with wet, muddy outdoor gear; there is also a rotary clothes line available to dry washing outside.. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, comprising of a double and a larger twin-bedded room, which can be converted to a very spacious king size bed as required. To the exterior of the cottage, you will find a small garden with pleasant Southerly outlook where there is garden furniture to enjoy the sunshine or an outdoor meal. The garden leads, via a public footpath, into a field which is idea for visiting pet owners. From the cottage, you are just a few minutes’ walk away from the village pub, where you can enjoy a pint or two, or a meal. If you travel into Cockermouth, you will be spoilt for choice by the selection of eateries and the large number of shops for picking up essentials. In the high street, you will discover the National Trust attraction of Wordsworth House and Garden, where you can brush up on the life of the famous poet who once called this home with guided tours detailing the life of this literary great. Visitors to Cockermouth can also explore the castle and take the Jennings Brewery tour. Within easy reach of Beck House are the lakes of Dewentwater, Bassenthwaite Lake, Buttermere, Crummock Water, Ennerdale and Loweswater offering great walking opportunities, as well as windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Set in this fantastic location, keen fell walkers will enjoy walking the ‘North Western Wainwrights'. Keswick lies 20 mins drive away, and offers easy access to the high fells of Skiddaw and Blencathra; to the east of the town is Castlerigg Stone Circle, which dates back to the Neolithic era and is well worth a visit. Keswick also offers an abundance of shops, pubs, a theatre and the Derwent Pencil Factory. Other attractions within the area include a tour of The Lakes Distillery, The Lakes Wildlife Park, exploring Whinlatter Forest Park, by foot or on bikes and the manor property of Mirehouse & Gardens, so there is certainly something to suit all ages and tastes here.
