Colterscleuch Cottage is a fine stone cottage, formerly an old farm building, that has been converted into a spacious, bright and airy two-bedroom cottage. Whilst still maintaining the traditional cottage feel with tone walls and wood burner, it has an inviting and warm homely feel. Set amidst rural farmland in the beautiful Scottish Borders' Teviot Valley, it provides a perfect base for exploring the surrounding historic Scottish border towns and English Borderlands. There is an abundance of wildlife surrounding the cottage and it’s easy to spend an hour or so just watching the many birds come and go, including pheasants. Colterscleuch Cottage is a delightful property suited for a family or group of five but also not too big for couples looking for a quiet retreat. The cottage enjoys a fairly secluded spot but is only a short drive away from amenities. Step into this all ground floor home and come to the kitchen/diner where an exposed stone wall features on one side, blending well with the soft cream and grey hues throughout the room, home to a fabulous range of appliances including an electric oven and hob, so you can get creative in the kitchen and produce some tasty meals to serve at the dining table. Take three steps up into the sitting room where you can sink into one of the two comfy sofas after lighting the woodburning stove and feeling the warmth on a winter evening, then browse the selection of games, books and DVDs and decide what the evening will hold; watch a film on the TV or curl up with a good book on the sofa. Open up the patio doors in summer which lead out from this room and delight in sitting on the patio with a refreshing drink out in the sun on the table and chairs. Step out beyond the patio to a secluded area, ‘The River Garden’, where you can sit and enjoy the views of the farmlands and listen to the babbling river and birdsong from the extensive wild bird population or venture further down for a dip in the River Teviot that runs at the bottom of the garden. During the long warm summer evenings you can enjoy a campfire, sitting round the firepit and watch the sunset over the farm fields with a view and sound of the river below. Or for a late afternoon or evening retreat, why not have a BBQ over the firepit which has a large BBQ grill fitted and a picnic bench and table to enjoy your meal in the outdoors under the trees. Continue on when evening falls and find two bedrooms where you can rest your head, choosing from the king-size bedroom, or the triple room which holds three single beds, with quality furnishings for storage and pleasant, thoughtful decor creating a tranquil spot to wind down in. Completing the interior is the vibrant bathroom with teal painted walls, home to a bath as well as a separate walk-in shower. Golfers can enjoy exploring the variety of scenic golf courses in the surrounding Border towns each unique and providing spectacular views. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy salmon, trout and grayling fishing in the various lochs in and around Hawick and further afield along the River Teviot and the River Tweed. Mountain bikers and cyclists can experience wonderful cycle routes, including the Southern Borders Loop (choosing between either 50 mile circuit or 75 mile loop on virtually traffic free roads through some of the wildest countryside to Newcastleton and Hawick); the Abbey Cycle Route (55 miles passing through 4 historic towns with wonderful Abbeys or local cycling trails around Hawick and Jedburgh and best of all for off roaders) and the Justice Trail (over 40 miles of great cycling in the hills around nearby Jedburgh). Those wanting to get back to nature can revel in the nearby Forestry at Craik in the heart of the Southern Uplands. There are walks and cycle routes to suit all abilities and naturalists will love spotting red squirrel from the hides. Newcastleton Forest area is steeped in the history of the Rivers and cross-border raiding, crossing the border into England where it meets with Kielder Forest, making it part of the largest forest in Britain. The 7 Stanes cycle route runs through here, and this vast forest is used by walkers, cyclists and horses. Travel up North to discover the historic town of Hawick, internationally known for its fine quality cashmere and knitwear as well as being rich in history, you will love browsing the great selection of outlets with quality knitwear, maybe even making a few purchases along the way to add to your wardrobe. There are working mills in Hawick and Selkirk producing the best quality cashmere and knitwear in the world. As well as outlets and museums, mill tours are also available to discover the rich and fascinating history of the Border towns. Over in Jedburgh, learn of the town's position as a frontier town in the midst of many a battle, and visit the house where Mary Queen of Scots stayed in 1566 learning of her tragic history.
