Gwyn's Barn, in The Black Mountains, is a superbly renovated, stunning, open plan spacious barn conversion that will sleep 8 guests in four bedrooms. The Barn can also be booked with Gwyn's Cottage (sleeps 6) to accommodate up to 14 guests.

Tucked away down a very quiet lane and set in the shadow of Castell Dinas - an ancient fort set on a mountain. There are scenic views from every window - the Barn is a few minutes stroll to the Black Mountains Gliding Club, not far out of Talgarth. This stunning property is paradise for anyone who enjoys hill-walking, pony trekking or cycling around the Black Mountains or Brecon Beacons. Owners have endeavoured to retain many of the original features with the unusual vaulted triangular shaped windows and the arrow slit windows. There are also the great roofing cruck beams that give this barn such character.

Accommodation

Sleeps 8 - 4 bedrooms - 3 shower/bathrooms.

Kitchen - A contemporary kitchen - with Shaker style units, a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, induction hob and electric cooker and a fridge 2/3 and freezer 1/3.

A dining area with a long dining table and chairs is set in the central part of the barn with excellent underfloor heating - ensuring the barn is always warm whatever the weather outside, under The Black Mountains.

Double doors lead out to the terrace with a large lawn shared with Gwyn's Cottage.

Sitting Room -with two large new comfortable sofas and chairs; a wall mounted TV with Free Sat.

Downstairs Family bathroom with a bath with a shower over, hand basin and toilet.

Downstairs Bedroom 1: With matching twin beds.

Downstairs Bedroom 2: A double bed with an en-suite shower room, hand basin and toilet.

Upstairs there is a "floating" landing with exposed "cruck" beam and private reading area.

Bedroom 3: Double bed with lovely views out from the velux windows of the Dragon's Back.

Bathroom: A shower-room, hand basin & toilet.

Bedroom 4: Double bed with stunning views from the velux windows over Castle Dinas.

This lovely Grade 2 listed barn really does have the most glorious views over Dinas Castell - this is the circular site of the highest ancient castle site in Wales at around 1480 feet. You can often see the Gliders from the airfield circling above it on the thermals.

The Black Mountains rise up behind the cottage and barn so there is easy pretty immediate access for walkers - the Radnor Hills and The Wye Valley an easy drive.

The town of Talgarth is just three miles with its' weekly livestock market, an excellent delicatessen and local butcher's shop - where Mr. George the butcher will be able to tell you which farm most of his meat comes from. There is also Talgarth Mill - where you can take a tour and watch the working of the restored water mill - milling the flour. Then have a bite to eat in the Talgarth Mill cafe, the Baker's Table.

Talgarth has a small Coop supermarket that seems to stock everything, several pubs a popular fish and chip shop and a Nepalese restaurant attached to The New Inn pub.

Talgarth, often called Gateway to The Black Mountains, hosts an excellent Walking Festival in May with some very interesting walks designed for all abilities.

From Talgarth to Hay-on-Wye is less than eight miles and somewhere that it is easy to while away the day, whilst being overlooked by the 12th century imposing castle (now under restoration). With the many fascinating second-hand bookshops, antique and craft shops, little boutique shops and plenty of places to sit and admire the view eating and drinking. Make sure you try a rather special ice cream made from goats' milk at Shepherds.

It is worth visiting Richard Booths Cinema Bookshop where there are often extremely good films showing, you can get some excellent meals and also spend hours sitting around browsing the massive selection of books.

While staying at Gwyn's Barn why not book a trial Glide from the nearby Gliding Club. Quite a different experience.
