Scott's Cottage, Breage

Cornwall. Sleeps up to 8

This fabulous, detached, renovated 18th century cottage, with its own annexe, sits within a World Heritage site, renowned for its tin and copper mining legacy, with several iconic chimney stacks nearby. Located in the little hamlet of Trew just outside of Breage, with views over what’s locally known as Gold Hill from Wheal Metal and the valley down to Porthleven, on a clear day you can see as far as Goonhilly Earth Station and the Lizard Peninsula. Once a mine chaplain's dwelling but now a light-filled, spacious contemporary home, Scott's Cottage lies at the end of an unmade ancient lane that leads on to a multitude of quiet scenic walks through this UNESCO World Heritage site, placing Cornish mining heritage on a par with international treasures like Machu Picchu, the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China. Perfect as a base for groups of friends and families wanting to explore stunning South West Cornwall. This fabulously presented cottage offers bright, spacious accommodation, is surrounded by glorious countryside, enjoying a tranquil rural setting that’s rich in wildlife, with only the owners’ house as neighbours. Just a short drive away is the charming, historic harbour village of Porthleven, renowned not only for its beauty but also for its culinary delights, pubs, famous restaurants and the increasingly popular annual food festival. After a day spent uncovering the delights of the Cornish coast, prepare delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen, before sitting down to eat together around the large, seats eight, dining table and put your feet up and relax by the warming wood-burning stove. On warm summer days and evenings, open the atrium’s huge folding glass doors and venture out onto the south-facing gravelled garden, light the barbecue and gaze across wonderful countryside views while you enjoy a refreshing drink in the secluded garden. There are many delightful and unique beaches hidden along this stretch of coast from Porthleven, including Poldhu Cove, the tropical Kynance Cove with its white sand and turquoise water, Polurrian, Mullion, Loe Bar, Rinsey Head, Praa Sands, St Michael’s Mount and Sennen Cove, with St Ives a short drive away featuring St Ives Tate, The Barbara Hepworth Museum, the golden sands of St Ives Bay and the fabulous Gwithian Towens. The Isles of Scilly make a spectacular day out to see Tresco Abbey Gardens, which can be easily reached by air or sea, or simply enjoy the local area, come and meet the resident Shetland Ponies, Goats and Chickens at Hope Farm. Upstairs, from the cottage landing there are three pretty bedrooms, including a king-size double room with a balcony and superb countryside views, a twin room, and a room with adult sized bunk beds. The spacious fourth bedroom is located in the detached annexe, which houses a super king-size bed with zip and link feature (can be a twin on request), boasting an en-suite shower room, and facing onto the private garden, also ideal for those with limited mobility. Whilst there is no telephone, WiFi with internet access is available so you can check your emails, post Facebook updates, search and browse to your heart's content, maybe planning where to eat or visit tomorrow.
