This compact first floor apartment for two is beautifully situated on a development of similar properties on South Snowdon Wharf in Porthmadog. Originally the site of the slate wharves from where slate from the local quarries would be sent on ships all over the world, nowadays it is a peaceful, private estate from where you can watch the world go by. The living area and balcony looks out over the harbour, whilst the town centre is a couple of minutes’ level walk away. Here you will find a wide selection of individual shops, eateries and supermarkets.
Porthmadog Harbour railway station is just 100 yards away with its nostalgic narrow gauge steam trains bustling off to both Blaenau Ffestiniog on the Ffestiniog Railway, and Beddgelert and Caernarfon on the Welsh Highland Railway. On the other side of the Cob embankment is the quirky Italianate village of Portmeirion. Designed by Sir Clough Williams Ellis, it is famed for the location of the filming of ’The Prisoner ’TV series in the 1960s.
Further to the south is Harlech Castle, one of the Edward I castles which looks out over the town. The town of Criccieth with its castle is just 5 miles away, or other places to visit include Llanberis with the Snowdon Mountain Railway, 25 miles, Caernarfon and the Lynn Peninsula, 20 miles. The beaches on the Cambrian coast are some of Wales’ best and are definitely worth a visit - there is a fabulous beach at Black Rock Sands just over 3 miles away. If you enjoy walking, then there is a lovely walk direct from the property via Borth y Gest along to Black Rock Sands. At Blaenau Ffestiniog, formerly the slate capital of the world, you will find Zip World, the UK’s largest zip wire zone, and Bounce Below, the only place in the world where you can bounce on trampoline nets deep inside a slate cavern (don’t worry, they will give you a hard hat!). Walking, cycling and more mountains than you can shake a stick at are all available close by. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
