Y Wenallt, Beddgelert

Gwynedd. Sleeps up to 2

On a working farm, set in the wooded foothills of Snowdon with the Watkin path on the doorstep and spectacular views of farmland and big landscapes beyond, Y Wenallt is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

A simple, converted first floor flat above the more modern farmhouse at Hafod y Llan, this cosy, comfortable and practical cottage has an open plan living space, and then a double bedroom and a bathroom through the corridor. The elevation of Y Wenallt means it’s great for watching the bats roost at Hen Dy, the original old farmhouse next door. Alternatively, if you were planning a break with friends or family but still wanted your own space, book Hen Dy as well, which sleeps eight.

With leisurely farm walks all around, Y Wenallt is the perfect base for exploring Snowdonia.  You’ll find the beautiful village of Beddgelert three miles away with its stunning river, steam railway, shops and restaurants. It’s also a great spot for climbing Moel Hebog and visiting Glaslyn Gorge. Beach lovers can nip to Morfa Bychan near Porthmadog. Or head up Snowdon itself, via walking, climbing or the train. If you’re feeling peckish after your adventures, then drop in to the old converted chapel at the entrance to Hafod y Llan, now a café, which also sells local freshly-prepared food.

As the second largest National Park in Britain, Snowdonia has miles and miles of countryside and coastline to explore, with rivers, lakes, waterfalls, forests, moorlands and glacial valleys all topped with the incredible mountain range itself.  Activities on offer go from high adrenaline canyoning or kayaking to more laid back trips to Sygun Victorian Copper Mine. Explore Plas yn Rhiw on Pen Llyn, or seek out red squirrels at Plas Newydd on Anglesey, all less than an hour away.
