Rose Cottage is a semi-detached cottage adjacent to the owner’s residence and paddock, with its own separate entrance and parking area. It is full of character, treating the visitor to the country life delights of an open fire and wooden beams. Set in a pleasant rural location, one mile down a lane from the main road and 3.5 miles from the lovely historic village of Oughterard by the shores of Lough Corrib, the second largest lake in Ireland. Oughterard hosts shops, pubs, restaurants and two churches, and makes the ideal location to experience an Irish village, and a base from which to explore the surrounding, breathtaking scenery. The area is a renowned fishing location, its rivers and lakes sporting trout and salmon, attracting fishermen from all over the world to try their fishing skills. Famous local tourist spots are Aughanure Castle, Glengowla Mines, or the summer boat trips to Inchagoill Island and Cong, and the Bridgits Gardens all just a few minutes’ drive. Oughterard is rightfully known as the gateway to Connemara, an area of the most outstanding and unforgettable beauty. Whether it’s the quiet coastal drives or mountain valley roads, visitors are truly impressed and delight in seeking out remote beaches or quiet walking lanes, and the Wild Atlantic Way is close by. Horse riding and golf is also available locally. For the sea hardy, a visit to one of the coastal islands is a must - next stop is Newfoundland! Other day trips undertaken by most visitors to the cottages are to the world famous Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare, and the delightful town of Westport and south Mayo. Also only 15 miles away is the old seafaring town of Galway, nestled at the head of Galway Bay. Known as the ’City of Tribes’, it is now a bustling place well worth a visit to sample its abundant shops, and cuisine to cater for all tastes. . Approximate distance to Knock Airport is 104 km.
