Birr is 12 miles away with its castle with its well-known telescope, Clonmacnoise an ancient Monastic site, Lough Boora Parklands with walks, birdwatching and sculpture park, Banagher on the River Shannon with its attractive marina and canal and river fishing (licence required). The busy midlands capital Athlone is just 18 miles away where you will find a large selection of shops, restaurants pubs. Shop and pub 1½ miles and restaurant 3 miles..
