Tucked down a quiet little lane (access to residents only) within the village conservation area in Angmering, Bluebell Cottage is a quaint, thoughtfully renovated and stylishly furnished, Grade II listed, 16th-century, terraced, character cottage. To the rear of the row of cottages was a secret tunnel leading from the church which was used by the priests when they had to make a timely escape. Sadly, this has now been filled in. The cottage has its own enclosed suntrap courtyard garden to the rear, which is the ideal place for a morning coffee or glass of wine after a day’s sightseeing!
Beauty treatments at a local spa, afternoon tea, gastro pub dining, fish and chips and a real ale country pub are all available within walking distance. Buses and trains are easily accessible and provide links to the seaside towns of Worthing, Portsmouth and Brighton. Visit Chichester with its marina and cathedral, or explore the historical market town of Arundel, set within the South Downs National Park. Arundel makes for a great day out, with its impressive castle and gardens, and fishing and boating on the River Arun. It also hosts a ten-day festival in August, which is not to be missed.
Nature lovers will enjoy the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, a 60-acre reserve at the foot of Offham Hangar. There is also easy access to the South Downs National Park for excellent walks, and in spring you can enjoy the beautiful bluebells in Angmering Woods. Horse racing enthusiasts have a choice of Goodwood, Fontwell Park and Brighton racecourses. Unspoilt beaches are close by, including Shoreham, Rustington, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis. There is a choice of two golf courses (one with a ten-pin bowling alley) about 1¼ miles away. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
