With views across to the pristine white sands of Uig Bay where the famous 12th century Lewis Chessmen were found, this detached holiday cottage offers a perfect base for families and friends to explore Uig and the west coast of Lewis. The area is a paradise for bird-watchers, artists and photographers. Stags are frequently seen in the vicinity sometimes in the drive. There are many outdoor activities including hill walking, surfing, fishing, diving, sea kayaking and cycling. Nearby boat trips offer a chance to spot whales, dolphins and sea eagles locally, or further afield discover the archipelago of St. Kilda, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A short walk from Timsgarry Old Post Office will take you to the well stocked Uig Community Shop and Café, and 5 minutes away is the local museum and tea room (open April to September/October). Stornoway, the main town on the island, has a golf course and a superb museum at Lews Castle, which boasts fabulous grounds and woodland walks. There are a number of popular festivals which take place throughout the year including the Hebridean Celtic Festival in July. The well-preserved Carloway Broch, the historic Callanish Stones and the Harris Tweed mills at Carloway and Shawbost are within a 30 minute drive. With dramatic landscapes, spectacular sunsets and the opportunity, on occasion, to spot the Northern Lights, Uig provides an escape from the pressures of modern life and offers a truly unique holiday experience in the Outer Hebrides.
