A few minutes' walk brings you into the hustle and bustle of Whitby centre, with some excellent restaurants, quaint tea rooms and interesting shops to browse. Wind your way through the quirky narrow streets, go down to the pretty harbour and into the cobbled market place. From here, you can work up an appetite by climbing the 199 steps up to the Abbey and the beautiful St. Mary's Church, with breathtaking views along the coastline. This is part of the Cleveland Way trail, where you can enjoy exhilarating cliff top walks. Children will be delighted with the long sandy beaches, perfect for building sandcastles and going on donkey rides, while the brightly coloured beach huts can be rented on a weekly basis. The surrounding area has something for everyone, whether it's discovering the pretty fishing villages of Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes, a trip on the steam railway, or having a fun-filled day out at Flamingo Land. A splendid base for a varied and memorable holiday.
