1 Horsey Barns, Horsey

Norfolk. Sleeps up to 3

Soak up the atmosphere when you stay at this cottage in the heart of life on the Broads. Inside the red brick exerior you'll find traces of its farming history, with vaulted ceilings, wooden beams and exposed flint walls. Beyond it, you'll love the walks across the water meadows, sand dunes and wide open spaces along the stunning Norfolk coast.

One of the three barns on site, 1 Horsey Barns sits next to 2 and 3 Horsey Barns, making up a traditional farmyard cattle court. Previously stalls and a feed room, it now sleeps three in two bedrooms, with a light and airy dining area and open plan sitting room, so it's perfect for small families or groups of friends exploring the coast and seal watching. There's a sun trap courtyard area right outside the front door, great for eating al-fresco after a day sailing or walking.

Walkers can explore the coastal trails all around, with more than 10 miles of soft sand beaches behind sand dunes 10 minutes' walk from the barn, and the team rooms and pub nearby are great for refuelling. If messing about on water is more your thing, then book a wildlife boat trip, head out kayaking or fishing on the Broads instead. Also- keep a look out for grey seals during breeding season where you can easily see 300 on the Horsey beaches, a sight you won't forget.

Whether you're looking for walks or beautifully calm beaches, the tranquil atmosphere of this genuinely unspoilt area of Norfolk will work its magic on you during your break. Take a trip to Horsey Windpump for the panoramic views, or head further afield to National Trust places Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall for more history. For a more bustling experience, head to the seaside town of Great Yarmouth, only half an hour away, with its mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and the Pleasure Beach and Sea Life Centre.
