Clear Water Barn is in a beautiful unspoilt and very remote corner of the Western Brecon Beacons National Park. It's a delightful and spacious barn superbly converted with masses of natural light flooding through the doors and windows, once the openings used by carts, and featuring an impressive high vaulted ceiling featuring unusual roof trusses. My first impressions were of a peaceful and a special place, a perfect retreat in this glorious remote countryside, in a tranquil setting yet only 1 mile from the village of Cilycwm.

Can be booked with Clear Water Cottage, to sleep 9, it's a perfect place for a larger family holiday or friends getting together.

Sleeps 5 - 1 Twin, 1 Single, 1 Double

Open plan kitchen/ dining area is the "heart of the house" with a central dining table seating 8 guests with views over the gardens, mountains and woodland. Fully equipped contemporary kitchen to prepare food with an island unit, solid beech work surface, Belfast sink, Gas hob, electric oven, fridge, dishwasher and microwave.
The sitting room is set down a few steps from the dining area with a comfy sofa and chairs and a TV with Freesat and a DVD. A very effective wood burning stove with masses of dry wood supplied from the nearby forest that has been recently felled; a lovely room with the great vaulted ceiling towering overhead.

Upstairs leading to a mezzanine with a balcony with two comfortable arm chairs, somewhere to be able to sit quietly reading a book.

A small sheltered entrance court yard and large beautiful gardens with an enclosed 4 acre paddock - great for visitors with pets where there are no roaming sheep, and with a more private sloping lawns behind the barn. There is a decked balcony area - reminding me of a ship in front of the sitting room window - where on a peaceful evening it would be a lovely place to just stand and gaze out over the gardens and down over the Nant Croiddur stream and through the woodland below.

An easy walk down the track to the village of Cilycwm is approximately 1 mile to village pub Neuadd Fawr Arms.
Nearest post office /shop and also cafe is in Rhandymyn.
Nearest town Llandovery which is 4 miles.

Cwmcroiddur was inhabited for hundreds of years, as a small hill farm, but in the 1850s there were major additions - Cwmcroiddur Farmhouse and the great barn were added by the same landowner that built the village of Cilycwm.The first building was Cwmcroiddur Farmhouse where the owners now live, and the great barn was added in the 1850s.

Cwmcroiddur nestles in the valley with woodland on one side and open hillside on the other. To the south, there is an amazing panorama across rolling farmland to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountain. Behind the buildings the land rises to reveal miles of wild, open country ideal for walking, mountain biking, pony trekking, bird watching (Red Kite are two a penny here!) or just taking in the view you're looking for, then this is the place for you. Behind the barn a path leads straight out through a birch wood up onto Mynydd Mallaen.
Nearby you can pan for gold at Dologothi gold mines, enjoy fishing on the rivers or the great Llyn Brianne Reservoir - permits are needed, miles of great wild countryside for horse riding (on discussion with the owner visitors can bring horses). Or for a more leisurely holiday just take your time browsing the local and traditional shops that still exist, the butchers, the bakers, a lovely craft centre and local antique shops. Not forgetting of course the many pubs, cafes and restaurants.
The West Wales coast of Cardigan Bay is only a 40 minute scenic drive through the forests and lanes with no traffic to the nearest beach at Aberaeon.
